As some of you already know, I have written a five volume law reviewer called the Lex Pareto Notes together with seven of my law school buddies and friends. I have made an "advertisement" for this an uploaded this in Youtube. Even if you are not a law student or practicing law, the foundational concept for the reviewer is so cool ! Currently it is one of the best selling bar exam reviewer in the Philippines having sold close to 8,000 copies for its first publication. You can check out the book website here. For those of you who has not seen the advertisement clip, here it is. … [Read more...]
New Year goals
Happy new year to all!!! I hope none of us has severed a finger or had gun powder burns due to playing with fire crackers to celebrate the New Year. (I advice you to just sit beside an instead) Today is the first day of the year. We always welcome the New Year with a celebration. Societies and cultures that measure yearly calendars all have New Year celebrations. For who wouldn’t celebrate the arrival of a new year? I really do not believe in coming up with a yearly New Year resolution. It’s just not my thing. But I do have New Year goals. Goals make life a little more interesting. The excitement of any sport is because of a goal. For what kind of sports would that be if there is no net, hole, goal or obstacle to hurdle or conquer? (Speaking of sports, if you are planning to give a gift to me, consider giving gifts to me this year so I will loose weight hehehehe) The timing of a New Year just makes coming up with a goal perfect. For me, the New Year is the best time of the year … [Read more...]
Top Ten posts for 2007 and blog year end review.
It took me several days to decide what I should blog about today, considering that this is the last day of the year. Since I blog in advance, I have time to think about what I am going to write about. I usually try to reconcile my blog schedule with the happenings of a certain day, but I just couldn’t up with something about technology and the last day of the year. I tried a year end review on technology but I only finished half of the article, I didn’t feel like continuing it. After reading several posts from my favorite bloggers, some of them gave me an idea. Some of the featured their top ten posts for the year. Although this blog is barely a month old, I have also decided to feature my top ten posts for 2007. This is based on the number of views. I believe this is the way to close this year. I am also including a comment as to why I believe this has been very popular with the readers. If you haven’t read these posts, you should. You might discover other reasons why they are … [Read more...]
Truly Thankful
Last December 16, 2007, it was my turn to teach Sunday school at the Career class again, so I decided to teach on the topic of Thanksgiving since it was thanksgiving Sunday at our church, the Cebu Bible Baptist Church at 55-23 Katipunan St. Labangon Cebu City, pastored by Dr. Armie Jesalva. I also preached this sermon last December 23, 2007 at the Bible Baptist Church of Mohon Talisay Pastored by Pastor Gemmo Suberano. I am so blessed by this sermon that I will be preaching this today at the Thanks giving service of Bible Baptist Church - San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, pastored by my father in law, Pastor Eddie Gerodias. For my introduction, I discussed the history of thanksgiving in the United States, and proceed with the story of the government mandate to celebrate thanksgiving. Governor William Bradford, of Plymouth Rock, proclaimed a day of Thanksgiving in 1621 to celebrate the survival of the Pilgrims in their second year in the New World, as well as an abundant harvest … [Read more...]
Jose Rizal’s greatest legacy
"Not only is Rizal the most prominent man of his own people but the greatest man the Malayan race has produced. " -Ferdinand Blumentritt, 1897. About 111 years ago in the grounds of Luneta Manila, Spanish authorities shot a man. A man who was about to change the course of Philippine history, a man we know today as Jose Rizal. Tomorrow we are once again commemorating the death anniversary of this great man. What was Jose Rizal’s greatest legacy? Why was he chosen to become our national hero ? For most people they believe that Jose Rizal was rightly chosen to become a national hero because he influenced most of our revolutionary leaders through his writings and example although other people believe that he should only be declared a hero not “The national hero.” Most people believed that Rizal’s greatest legacy is his love for his country as embodied in his writings and the actions that he took. I remember taking up a “Rizal” course in college, which was a requirement in order … [Read more...]
