Welcome polymaths !

Ever get the feeling that you seem to don't know what to do with your life because there are just so many things that you want to do ? I know, I've been there, so welcome to the club.

My name is Zigfred Diaz and I am a polymath. After more than 6 years of bloging about almost anything under the sun and having sort of a "blogging identity crisis." I've finally embraced who I am and decided to turn my main blog into some sort of guide for people with so much interest. Feel free to poke around.

Pacman vs. Dangerous – The Manny Pacquiao and David Diaz – Lethal combination youtube video

June 23, 2008 by Zigfred Diaz 2 Comments

No, this is not yet the youtube video of the actual fight between our very own Pacquiao and Diaz. The fight dubbed as “Lethal combination” will still be on June 28. I am just helping promote the fight. (At the same time trying to optimize this blog for the fight searches hehehehehe) My friends keep on asking me if I will bet for Pacquiao which is a source of our national pride or for Diaz, which is my “distant” relative. (Not really, we just have the same family name hehehehehe) My answer is that I am betting for no one, because I don’t bet. But if ever I will, my money will be on Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao for two reasons: First of all because he is Filipino and Secondly, because I believe he hits harder than David “Dangerous” Diaz. David may look bigger in size than Manny Pacquiao, but Pacquiao looks more solid to me. (I wonder if boxers use diet pills to drastically reduce weight, just a thought) Pacquiao will certainly have a hard time beating Diaz . He isn’t called … [Read more...]

Latest weather forecast on typhoon Frank – soon to leave the country

June 23, 2008 by Zigfred Diaz Leave a Comment

After 48 hours of living back in the dark ages, I finally had the opportunity to open my emails, update my blog, check the news and do my usual stuff online. I just can’t imagine what it like is to live without the internet, not be able to take a bath for a day and not able to watch my favorite movie and T.V shows. Typhoon Frank is exiting the Visayas, but is still disturbing the northern part of the country. We had about 48 hours of no electricity as a result of typhoon Frank. Our local Electric company (VECO) had to do a lot of repairs before electricity was restored. But the fate I suffered could have been worse. I’m glad it was only limited to our lack of electricity. Sometimes I wish that I lived in a nice cool country where there are no storms (Unfortunately there is snow and I have engage in a back breaking routine to shovel the snow and use tire chains in my car) My heart goes out to our kababayans who has suffered much because of the devastation brought about by typhoon … [Read more...]

Idiot’s guide to the subprime mortgage crises

June 20, 2008 by Zigfred Diaz 3 Comments

They say that when Uncle Sam sneezes, the rest of the world gets a cold. Now, Uncle Sam certainly isn’t sneezing, Uncle Sam’s got a flu and the rest of the world got pneumonia. The economic woes of the United States are far from over brought about by rising fuel costs and mainly the subprime mortgage crises. Most people in other countries do not understand what this subprime mortgage crisis is all about. The reason for such is that mortgage is not a very popular thing in other countries, and if it is, they probably still do not have the sophisticated mortgage system that the United States is implementing. If they don’t understand what mortgage even is, how in the world could they understand what subprime mortgage is much more the subprime mortgage crises. For instance, in our country the Philippines, although we have “mortgages,” we still do not have a very complex mortgage industry like the United States has. Mortgage may be well advertised here in the Philippines, but not as … [Read more...]

How the Rule of 72 is used to wisely manage debt

June 19, 2008 by Zigfred Diaz 2 Comments

The Rule of 72 is a basic rule that each and every investor should know. The rule is commonly used to determine how many years will it take for your money to double.  The equation is simply this, 72 divided the interest rate equals the number of years it takes for your money to double. For more information on this you can read my blog post entitled “An audio visual presentation of the Rule of 72” and “The Magic of the Rule of 72” For a more practical application of the Rule of 72, read the blog post entitled “Want to get wealthy ? Think like the bank” But the usage of the Rule of 72 is not only limited to investments. The Rule of 72 can also be used when it comes to managing debt wisely. The Rule of 72 could be written as follows: 72 / interest rate = number of years for your debt to double By using this equation, you can take any debt you have with your credit card company or your mortgage lenders and determine how many years will it take for your debt to double. As an … [Read more...]
