Welcome polymaths !

Ever get the feeling that you seem to don't know what to do with your life because there are just so many things that you want to do ? I know, I've been there, so welcome to the club.

My name is Zigfred Diaz and I am a polymath. After more than 6 years of bloging about almost anything under the sun and having sort of a "blogging identity crisis." I've finally embraced who I am and decided to turn my main blog into some sort of guide for people with so much interest. Feel free to poke around.

Guerilla Blogger in Philippine Senate inquiry

March 15, 2009 by Zigfred Diaz 6 Comments

Guerilla Blogger was grilled in a Philippine senate inquiry for implementing subversive and contrarian methods in blogging including the illegal use of guerilla blogging strategy and tactics. Hahahah not really ! :-)  Last February 10, 2009 my friend Atty. Andrew “Andy” Dadula and I had the opportunity to be invited to the Philippine Senate inquiry on the pre-need fiasco, in particular the Legacy Consolidated plans mess. Special thanks of course to my co-blogger in Cebu Blogging Society, Kevin Ray Chua of www.marroxas2010.blogpspot.com who referred me to the office of Atty. Blas Viterbo, Chief of staff of Senator Roxas for making all of this possible. Just having 3 hours sleep Monday night due to preparation of the documents that I have to bring to Manila, I forced myself to wake up at around 2:30 a.m. Our flight leaves at 5 a.m. So I have to leave the house at around 3 a.m, because I still have to pick up Andy. I arrived at our agreed rendezvous point on time, Andy arrived a … [Read more...]

Determining the best rate of return for investments

March 13, 2009 by Zigfred Diaz 3 Comments

I have answered several questions from a student from the University of the Philippines-Cebu regarding investing in the Philippine stock market. So far my answers are contained in the post entitled "Questions and answers on the Philippine stock exchange" and "The best asset allocation strategy to follow." As I have previously noted, since the question asked requires somewhat lengthy answers, I have decided to turn it into a series of blog posts for several reasons. First, so that I can have something to post in my blog, secondly, for keyword ambush :-) and thirdly to somehow share knowledge and awareness to the public with regards to the stock market and value investing. One of the questions asked was that if assuming a 20 % rate of return in the stock market is practicable. Here is my answer to the question. Dear Enji Rate of return or otherwise known as “rate of return of investment” is defined by Wikipedia as “the ratio of money gained or lost (realized or unrealized) on … [Read more...]

The best asset allocation strategy to follow

March 11, 2009 by Zigfred Diaz 2 Comments

My previous posts entitled “Questions and answers on the Philippine stock exchange” were followed up by another set of questions sent by the same person. The questions propounded also requires a lengthy answer and hence I am responding with three different blog posts on her recent questions. In this post I am going to answer the question on Asset allocation strategy. The question is as follows: ". . . We are given 1,000,000 pesos as the capitalization for the portfolio. We decided for an asset allocation of 65% stocks, 25% bonds, and 10% cash, based on a moderately aggressive risk tolerance. Time horizon: 5 - 7 years Expected return: 20% (??? is it practical?) Objective: Capital preservation and growth Strategy: Lump-sum or one-time investingJust wanna ask for your opinion of the above investment plan esp the allocation." My response on asset allocation strategy is as follows: Dear Enji, Asset allocation in a nutshell as defined by Wikipedia “ . . refers to how … [Read more...]

Donnie Nietes vs. Erik Ramirez youtube video

March 4, 2009 by Zigfred Diaz Leave a Comment

I didn’t get to blog about the “Donnie Nietes vs. Erik Ramirez youtube video” before the fight. I learned about this just recently. Anyway, the news is still fresh perhaps I can still get some traffic for this. Once again, the Philippine is proud because ALA gymn’s star fighter, WBO minimum weight king, Donnie Nietes successfully defended his title for the second time, this time against Mexican Erik Ramirez in Oaxaca, Mexico. Donnie Nietes knocked down the Mexican fighter four times making the judges score the bout at 115-109, 116-108 and 113-111 all in favor of Nietes. Called “Ahas” (snake) because he enters the ring bringing his pet snake with him, Donnie Nietes has improved his standing to 24-1-3, 14 KOs while Erik Ramirez who is ranked No. 2 by the WBO slid down to 25-6-1 with 19 knockouts. Boy I wish I had those boxer's well chiseled abs.  Well got to take my weight loss pills to achieve it hehehehe. I have a previous post on Donnie Nietes’ previous fight. People seem … [Read more...]
