Welcome polymaths !

Ever get the feeling that you seem to don't know what to do with your life because there are just so many things that you want to do ? I know, I've been there, so welcome to the club.

My name is Zigfred Diaz and I am a polymath. After more than 6 years of bloging about almost anything under the sun and having sort of a "blogging identity crisis." I've finally embraced who I am and decided to turn my main blog into some sort of guide for people with so much interest. Feel free to poke around.

Advice for the bar examinee – Part 1

April 27, 2010 by Zigfred Diaz 2 Comments

My good friend and mentor, Prof. Manuel R. Riguera has written a long but very useful article for law students and bar exam candidates which he entitled “Advice for the bar examinee.”  Since law students also frequent this blog, I have asked his permission to feature the article here. Because of the length of the article, I have divided it into three parts. Prof. Manuel Riguera is a well known law professor, practitioner, book author and is review director of perhaps the most innovative bar review center in the Philippines, the Jurists Bar Review Center. Jurists pioneered the “coaching style bar exam review” trend now being copied by other bar review centers. Being a graduate of Jurists Bar review, I really appreciate the concept. I so loved the innovations implemented by Jurists that I wrote the articles “Applying blue ocean strategy in the Philippine bar exam review” and “10 reasons why I love Jurists Bar review Center.” I had also the pleasure of serving as bar exam coach at … [Read more...]

Stock market investing seminar in Cebu this April 2010

April 11, 2010 by Zigfred Diaz 10 Comments

My good friend Claire S. Quiray a stock market analyst informed me that she will be conducting a stock market seminar in Cebu this coming April 21, 22 and 23 at the Baseline Complex Restaurant, Juana Osmena Cebu City, Cebu. Unlike most stock market seminars which only focuses on Technical analysis, this series of seminars presents a good balance between fundamental analysis and technical analysis. With the inclusion of Seminar 3, Claire takes this  further by going deep into fundamental analysis as she introduces the companies in the Philippine stock exchange, their management and other things you need to know about the companies you are investing in. To me this is the brief yet most comprehensive seminar that strips away the academics and the hard to understand jargon behind investing in the stock market. This no-non sense series of seminars gives you a practical down to earth knowledge on how to invest in the Philippine stock market. The first seminar is on technical analysis … [Read more...]

Remembering the last seven words of Jesus and His crucifixion

April 2, 2010 by Zigfred Diaz Leave a Comment

Today is known as crucifixion day or “Good Friday.” Christians today from all over the world, take time to pause, reflect and remember the death of Jesus in the cross. Churches hold services and ministers usually preach on the last seven words of Jesus. The crucifixion of Christ has become such a familiar subject to all of us that even if we “remind” ourselves about it every year by remembering the last seven words of Jesus, we sometimes fail to really grasp the pain and the agony that Jesus went through in the cross at Calvary. I really wish that I could be transported back in time to witness the crucifixion and hear the last seven words of Jesus. However even if we did not actually witness the actual crucifixion, the Bible gives us a really graphic depiction of the events in Calvary and this is more than enough for me. Every time I meditate and reflect on the crucifixion, I feel humbled thinking that the Son of God has given his life for me. Fortunately for us in the 20th century … [Read more...]

Understanding the true and real meaning of the Lenten Season

April 1, 2010 by Zigfred Diaz Leave a Comment

Today, April 1, 2010, Thursday is what we call “Maundy Thursday” or what is also commonly known as “Holy Thursday.” For the next 4 days we celebrate what we know as the “Holy week” otherwise popularly known as the Lent season. The Lent Season starts with Holy Thursday which is known to be the day that commemorates the last Supper of Jesus Christ with the apostles. Good Friday is traditionally acknowledged by most as the day that Jesus Christ was crucified. Black Saturday is when Jesus was still in the tomb. Lent ends with Easter or Resurrection Sunday, which is the day in which Jesus rose again from the grave. For some people Lent means having a long vacation. This is not only a religious holiday, but a non-working holiday in most predominantly “Christian” nations. For us in the Philippines we have non-working days from Thursday to Saturday, well traditionally Sunday is also a non-working day for most business establishments. Because of the long holidays, people go on vacation, … [Read more...]
