Mother’s day is usually celebrated on March or April in most countries and you might be wondering why I have greeted Russian mothers a happy mother’s day. Well that is because in Russia, Mother’s day is celebrated on the last day of November. Russia is one of the few countries that celebrate their mother’s day other than March or April. Majority of countries like the U.S or the Philippines celebrate mother's day usually in the second Sunday of May. By the way you might be thinking of sending Mother's day flowers across the US if your mother is in the U.S during that special day. It used to be that there is no Russian Mother’s day. The closest they have to a mother’s day was the United Nation’s declared International Women’s day in March. It was said that in the 1940s, this day was very popular to Russian women as this holiday originated as a day of rebellion of women struggling for equal rights with men. According to Wikipedia “Demonstrations marking International Women's Day in … [Read more...]
Solving Asia’s Poverty Problem – Part 2
This is a continuation of my on solving Asia's poverty problem which is my official entry to the Asia Challenge 2010. Click here to view Solving Asia’s Poverty Problem – Part 1. Because of poverty Asia has the highest rate of human trafficking. Asians are lured into false hopes of having a good paying job in other countries only to find out that they have been trafficked into force labor. Trafficked women and children are often forced into prostitution and sexual exploitation. Statistics released by the International Labor Organization as reported by the United Nation’s Global initiative shows that an estimated 2.5 million people are in forced labor (including sexual exploitation) at any given time as a result of trafficking. A staggering, 1.4 million (56%), which is more than half are from the Asia Pacific region. 5 Poverty is also the cause behind Asia’s high illiteracy rate. Manny Pacquiao vs. Antonio Margarito youtube video and live streaming
I wish Manny Pacquiao would fight every month for several reasons. First I get lots of traffic ( $$$ cashing ! $$$) Secondly, at least there’s something to “look forward to” a diversion from life’s hectic schedule and thirdly because the entire Philippines suddenly becomes so peaceful for several hours. So I am really looking forward to Manny Pacquiao’s fight vs. Antonio Margarito this coming Saturday night (Sunday morning here in the Philippines) at the Cowboys Stadium, Arlington, Texas. The two will clash for the vacant WBC world super welterweight title. If Pacquiao wins this it will be his 8th title making him break his own record of being the only boxer that has the most titles. I’m sure people who could not be there during fight night will all over the net searching for the Manny Pacquiao vs. Antonio Margarito youtube video and live streaming to view the fight of the year. Manny Pacquiao does not need any further introductions. Undisputedly the best in the world of boxing he … [Read more...]

Solving Asia’s Poverty Problem – Part 1
This is my official entry to the Asia Challengee 2010 essay writing contest. Unfortunately I did not win this contest so I am posting it in my blog. Otherwise you would be reading it at Time Magazine, so be happy that you read it first here at www.zdiaz.com. hehehehehe :-) What is the most important challenge facing Asia over the next decade? Why? and what should be done about it ? These words stuck with me while I read the last page of the August 2010 issue of Times Magazine on the 29th of August. I usually do not read ads, but somehow for some reason I read this one and found out that the deadline for this essay contest is on the 31st. I quickly researched about Asia in the internet and realized that there are a lot of things to write on. Issues that affect Asia ranging from the most popular such as global warming to corrupt governments to birth control flooded my mind. I am in a quandary as to what to write on. Amongst all of these issues which is the most important? Having an … [Read more...]
