Welcome polymaths !

Ever get the feeling that you seem to don't know what to do with your life because there are just so many things that you want to do ? I know, I've been there, so welcome to the club.

My name is Zigfred Diaz and I am a polymath. After more than 6 years of bloging about almost anything under the sun and having sort of a "blogging identity crisis." I've finally embraced who I am and decided to turn my main blog into some sort of guide for people with so much interest. Feel free to poke around.

Next major tsunami, the European financial crisis

November 7, 2008 by Zigfred Diaz Leave a Comment

I don’t want to sound like a prophet of doom, and as an investor, I don’t want to sound pessimistic when it comes to the economy either. However it seems that the worst is far from over as there is another financial tsunami that may hit the world as badly as it did the first, the European financial crisis. Of course it cannot be denied that the European financial crises have partly been caused by the United States’ subprime mortgage problem. Since Uncle Sam contracted the Flu, Europe has lost more than $ 300 billion in asset write downs. Banks has been bailed out, and big European countries have been injecting cash into their banking POS systems to increase liquidity in the hopes of averting a European financial crisis. But the European financial crisis does not end there. Since Europe dropped its interest rates several years ago, it experienced a real estate boom all across the region which in turn led to the growth of the banking and construction sector. This growth is … [Read more...]

Is flaxseeds good for your health?

November 3, 2008 by Zigfred Diaz 2 Comments

People are getting crazy over alternative sources of medicine. In the Philippines, T.V and radio ads are filled with “herbal” food supplements that although do not guarantee a cure are however marketed as a “cure all.” The reason is quite obvious with the high percentage of our younger population suffering from diseases that is suppose to show up only during ages 50s and above no doubt it would seem that traditional western medicine has failed in its primordial calling of being an “art of healing.” Enter another natural herbal food supplement that is said to be very good for your health – Flaxseeds. Consumption of flaxseeds for health purposes is not new at all as far as 5,000 BC, Flaxseeds were used in ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome. It is even said that some people worshiped flaxseeds for their said “magical properties” as flaxseeds can supposedly heal the intestines, skin conditions, improve energy, and improve overall health. It is only recently that the consumption of … [Read more...]

The parable of the old violin

November 1, 2008 by Zigfred Diaz Leave a Comment

The parable of the old violin is not one of the parables of Jesus. The parable of the old violin is not really the title of this inspirational piece. I decided to name it the "parable of the old violin" to optimize for the keyword "old violin." (Guerilla blogger’s strategy) I just love listening to a violin. Somebody playing a violin piece over portable baby monitors is certainly enough to make a baby sleep. The title of this wonderful poem is “The Touch of the Master's Hand.” This was written by Myra Brooks Welch who is known as the “poet with a singing soul.” This poem about an old violin has been converted into several well known songs known today with the same title. Watch this youtube video on the “parable of the old violin” and learn how the touch of the Master’s hand  could make a difference in the price of the old violin.  Learn also how the touch of the Master's hand could make a difference in your life ! … [Read more...]

The best time to invest – your lifetime

October 31, 2008 by Zigfred Diaz 2 Comments

Some people say that investing is a game of timing. No matter what type of investor you are, timing is very important. Right timing will tell you when to get into a certain time of investment and when to get out. The question of timing also answers when it is best time to invest in a certain type of investment vehicle. Simply put, proper timing will tell you the best time to invest. Most experts agree that nobody can predict with certainty what the pattern of the markets will be, hence it can be concluded that nobody can know for certain when is the best time to invest. However we can always make an educated guess on when is the best time to invest. This is much better than just leaving everything to fate. I mentioned in my pervious post “How Warren Buffett made me poor” that I was taking a “Buffett break” and that before proceeding with my 5th Buffett book, I will be reading another financial management book. The book that I just read is entitled “Lifespan Investing” by Clifford … [Read more...]
