The following are excerpts from the actual reports of the 1980 Bar Examiners submitted to, and released to the law schools by, Madam Justice Ameurfina Melencio-Hererra, Chairperson of the 1980 Committee on Bar Examinations. I have already made a summary of this report and has posted it in this blog in the post entitled “How to pass the Philippine bar exams.” However I believe that law students and law professors will gain more by reading the full report. Although this report was made more than 27 years ago, the lessons that can be gleaned are timeless and can still very much apply to those who will be taking the Philippine bar exams. This report is also useful for law professors and law schools as this will help us re-evaluate our teaching methods in order to effectively help our students hurdle the hardest exam in the Philippines, the bar exams. The report starts out with these interesting observations: 1. With a relatively few notable exceptions, I observed a deficiency in the … [Read more...]

Super memory
They say that the human brain is the most powerful and most complex piece of machinery there is to exist. So powerful and complex it is that that computing power of a single human brain is more powerful than all of the world’s computers combined. I remember watching the STAR TREK: Voyager series. When the Starship Voyager was introduced it is said that it the fastest among the fleet because the way it transmits information is through the use of “Bio-neural circuitry.” This is without a doubt a reference as to how fast the brain processes information. Unfortunately scientists tell us that the average human being only utilizes about 10 % of the brain. However recently, scientists are baffled by a man who is said to have utilized his brain function, way above the average 10 %, a man who is said to have “Super memory” a man who remembers all the details of his life. His name is Brad Williams from Wisconsin, U.S.A. Brad Williams recalls almost any news event and anything that he … [Read more...]
Abalos burjer
Former Commission on Elections (Philippines) chairman Benjamin Abalos has been criticized by Filipinos worldwide for mispronouncing the word "hamburger." Instead of pronouncing the "g" as in go, goat, or goal, he pronounced it as "j" as in jar, jam, jug. In short he said "hamburjer." The video of Abalos mispronouncing the word "hamburger" is uploaded at yotube, yutube, utube, youtobe, youtube and has gained a certain degree of popularity, that I think Abalos should think about making it a tag line in his campaign and have the word "Abalos Hamburjer for _" printed in t-shirts, and other campaign materials. This way perhaps people will be quickly remember him:-) This reminds me of the movie Pink Panther, where Steve Martin played a French police inspector, Inspector Clouseau. In this short youtube video clip, Steve Martin was trying to pronounce the sentence "I would like to buy a hamburger." If you haven't seen the movie, watch the clip and you will find yourself laughing … [Read more...]

Statistics say that more than 2 out of 10 Filipinos are living abroad. An estimated Eleven Million of those are what we know as “OFWs” or Overseas Filipino Workers. Every year, more and more Filipinos seek work abroad. They come from all walks of life and all kinds of professions, doctors, nurses, accountants, IT professionals, engineers & architects, entertainers, technicians, teachers, military servicemen, students, and domestic helpers, all working abroad in search for a better life for themselves and their families. Overseas Filipino Workers are considered as the country’s new heroes, or “Bagong bayani” since they help build the Philippine economy. They sent more than $ 14 Billion dollars back to the Philippines for 2007 alone. As more Filipinos are leaving for abroad, this figure is expected to rise higher. The Philippines is the fourth largest recipient of foreign remittances (India being first followed by China and Mexico) Foreign remittances by OFW’s represents 13.5% … [Read more...]
