Welcome polymaths !

Ever get the feeling that you seem to don't know what to do with your life because there are just so many things that you want to do ? I know, I've been there, so welcome to the club.

My name is Zigfred Diaz and I am a polymath. After more than 6 years of bloging about almost anything under the sun and having sort of a "blogging identity crisis." I've finally embraced who I am and decided to turn my main blog into some sort of guide for people with so much interest. Feel free to poke around.

What is the best Portfolio diversification strategy

March 28, 2009 by Zigfred Diaz 17 Comments

This is the fourth blog post that I have written in response to several questions asked by an accountancy student from the University of the Philippines Visayas (Cebu Campus) regarding the Philippine stock market. As I have said before, I have responded via a blog post because the answers I am giving are quite lengthy not to mention the chance and opportunity to inform the public about value investing and investing in the Philippine stock market. The previous questions and answers to such questions are found in these posts: “Questions and answers on the Philippine stock exchange” “The best asset allocation strategy to follow.” “Determining the best rate of return for investments” Actually this is a series of questions that were raised in a comment. To appreciate and learn more from her questions, I suggest that you read the previous posts. The next set of questions is as follows ". . . Now, we’re down to the portfolio diversification and security selection . . . Which … [Read more...]

2008 Philippine Bar exam results finally out

March 23, 2009 by Zigfred Diaz 6 Comments

At last, bar candidates can breathe a sigh of relief as the 2008 Philippine Bar exam results is finally out. The Philippine bar exams is said to be the hardest and the longest exam in the country. Candidates are subjected to a grueling 32 hours, 4 Sundays of all essay type questions. The exam is perceived to be very daunting, that some examinees end up backing out in the first two Sundays. Taking the bar exams is so exhausting that it is like working on manual pond pumps for a month ! The worst case scenario is that some examinees end up in the hospital or worse the mental institution. The good news is that I have not heard of anybody yet who has died because of taking the Philippine bar exams. (And I hope that nobody will) It is the only exam supervised by the Philippine Supreme Court and is held during the month of September. It is perhaps the most celebrated among the exams both during the exams itself and during the release of the exam results. Still have family, friends … [Read more...]

The ironic life of SEC Commissioner Jesus Martinez

March 21, 2009 by Zigfred Diaz 2 Comments

SEC Commissioner Jesus Martinez has been in the hot seat recently in the ongoing Philippine Senate inquiry on the state of the pre-need industry in the Philippines, in particular the latest pre-need fiasco which is of course deals with the infamous Celso Delos Angeles and his cash strapped Legacy group of companies. According to news reports, Celso Delos Angeles’ Legacy group allegedly gave cash and bought a million peso house for SEC Commissioner Jesus Martinez. This scandal has rocked the Securities and Exchange Commission and has stirred up public outrage against the regulatory body for its alleged inefficiency and corruption. The "professional heckler" in his blog wrote that the Securities and Exchange Commission (S.E.C) should have been renamed as  “Security in Exchange for Commission.”  Lawyer blogger, the "Warrior lawyer" wrote “Is this why they’re called commissioners? Because they get a piece of the action every time?” Amidst all of this chaos, I cannot help but think … [Read more...]
