Welcome polymaths !

Ever get the feeling that you seem to don't know what to do with your life because there are just so many things that you want to do ? I know, I've been there, so welcome to the club.

My name is Zigfred Diaz and I am a polymath. After more than 6 years of bloging about almost anything under the sun and having sort of a "blogging identity crisis." I've finally embraced who I am and decided to turn my main blog into some sort of guide for people with so much interest. Feel free to poke around.

8 reasons why polymaths should be minimalists

December 2, 2016 by Zigfred Diaz Leave a Comment

Minimalism is not only an interior design concept, it is also a concept in living one’s life. Living with less is contrary to modern society. In our capitalistic, materialistic modern way of life a lot of us live to collect the latest items, whether it be the latest gadget, cars or accessories.

As polymaths our lives are devoted to our passions, our passion is the pursuit of knowledge and the pursuit of discovering an integrated holistic framework upon which such knowledge rest upon and using such knowledge to make this world a better place to live in. We do not rely on things to make us happy, as polymaths we view things as tools to reach our mission, goals, dreams and passions. Polymaths should be minimalists because of the following reasons:

1. Lesser debt – Debt ties you up. If you are a polymath and you are tied up in debt, you will not have the time necessary to pursue your passions. You will be caught in the cycle of debt, and incurring more debt to pay for debt and so on. A polymath who is a minimalist avoids being caught in the debt trap and has more time to pursue his or her passions.

2. More free time – Since you make life more simple as a minimalist you only make sure the commitments you make are only to the things that are important, you will have more free time to pursue your passions and projects as a polymath.

3. You will discover more of yourself – To be a minimalist stripping away everything unnecessary means everything. From an unwanted job, unnecessary material possessions, unproductive relationships and not doing non-meaningful activities Without all of these you can discover thoughts, feelings, skills, and talents you didn’t realize you had. A polymath has to have a heightened sense of awareness in order not be overwhelmed with the project and passions he or she is pursuing and later on feeling lost in everything that he or she does. Self-discovery is therefore very important for a polymath.

4. Less stress – If you are a minimalist you will have lesser possession, lesser debt, lesser pressure to impress others. You will avoid chasing after power and possessions. You will have lesser problems in life considering that chasing only after money and power in life is the root cause of many problems. Less stress for polymaths means more focus on our passions and projects.

5. It’s good for the environment – As polymaths know that all knowledge is connected, similarly all of life in the system in this planet is interconnected. As a minimalist, you will be consuming less, less consumption means less trash and less impact to the environment.

6. More time to help others – The pursuit of our passions and projects as polymaths has one common end, and that is the contribution to the greater good. Polymaths need to be minimalist in order to focus on this ultimate objective of all that we are doing.

7. Pursue the job or career you really like – Less consumption means less money needed to pay the bills. No need to suffer in a job or career you never really liked but you opted to stay there because of what it pays. As polymaths the most important thing for us is to pursue our passions, not necessarily a job with a higher pay.

8. More meaningful life – Eliminating what is unnecessary creates more space for the things that matter and as polymaths what matters is our multiple passions. Further, you will have more time and space for more meaningful relationships and since clutter is out of the way, you will ultimately end up doing the best in the most important things and being the best that you can be.

I hope that by the end of this article you now realize how important minimalism is to a polymath. As one article writer says about minimalism, it is indeed the ultimate sophistication.
