Finally, the most anticipated fight of the year is here! Our very own Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao battles Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton in the historic pound for pound boxing match dubbed as “Battle of the East and West” that will take place on May 3, 2009 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, U.S.A
Manny Pacquiao is undoubtedly the Philippines’ most watched and most prized fighter. His fame is known all over the world, I’m pretty sure the entire country will literally stand still in time this coming Saturday (Sunday in the Philippines) as people stay at home, flock to the movies or anywhere where Pay per view or even a delayed telecast is available. Others will utilize technology and search for the Manny Pacquiao vs. Ricky Hatton youtube video and live streaming.
Of course I am hoping that Manny Pacquiao will win. Pacquiao has a sterling 48-3-2 record with 36 knockouts. Pacquiao used to be simultaneous holder of several world titles. (Unfortunately some boxing councils asked him to give up some of his titles due to regulations) Most boxing analyst and magazine consider him as the best pound for pound fighter in the world. His victory against Diaz and Dela Hoya no doubt sealed that claim.
On the other hand Hatton has an equally impressive record of 45 wins, 32 by knock out and only 1 loss. Hatton is also title holder of several world titles and just like Pacquiao is known to be an aggressive fighter and is according to HBO “one of the world’s most popular and relentless fighter.”
Pacquiao has no doubt the edge in speed and skill while Hatton may seem have to have the edge in Power.
So this coming May 3, 2009 will Pacquiao prove to the world that he not only beats Mexicans but also British bulldogs that has been released from their leash ? Will Hatton’s brawling style and power overcome Pacquiao’s speed and skill?
Update: The Pacman knocked the Hitman out cold in the second round ! Good thing Hatton woke up after Manny put him to sleep, I guess he would not be needing disability insurance after all !
