I’ve been contemplating on writing about Michael Jackson ever since the famous singer passed away simply because his death was the buzz of the blogsphere and was headline news all over the world. It seems that I can’t seem to find anything to write about him because I am really not a fan. However I do respect the man’s contribution to the world of music. Michael Jackson is known for his famous moon walk, a dance step that he popularized and is defined by Wikipedia as “a dance technique that presents the illusion of the dancer being pulled backwards while attempting to walk forward.” I pondered upon this definition and realized that the death of Michael Jackson and his famous moon walk could teach us lessons in life. This post is not intended as a put down of the King of pop, rather this post focuses on the lessons that we can learn from Michael Jackson and his last moon walk. Michael Jackson is considered as the most successful entertainer of all times. Having sold over 750 … [Read more...]
Wycliffe Bible Translators starts movement to put Bible translation in every language
I should have blogged about this topic weeks ago, but decided to put it off until now. I really felt the pressing need of the work of Bible Translation when Pastor Lloyd Estrada, director of “Sa Bawat Wika” gave his presentation and sermon on the importance of Bible translation in mission work. “Sa Bawat Wika” is a Filipino phrase which means “In Every Language.” The movement is under the umbrella of the Wycliffe Bible Translators. A search in wikipedia reveals that the group was founded in 1942 by William Cameron Townsend. The ministry is named after the “Morning Star of the reformation,” John Wycliffe, who was the first person to translate the whole Bible into middle English. As of today, Wycliffe Bible Translators works in over 50 countries. The “Sa Bawat Wika” project aims to put a Bible translation in every language without a Bible translation by the year 2025. According Wycliffe Bible Translators there are 6,909 languages spoken in the world. According to Pastor … [Read more...]
What’s wrong with the Purpose Driven Life
The Purpose Driven Life has not doubt left a mark on 21st Century Evangelical Christianity. In a 2005 Survey conducted by George Barna, American pastors, leaders and ministers point out that it is one of the books that have influenced their ministries greatly. Wikipedia cites that it is “arguably one of the best-selling non-fiction” because of the fact that it has been “on the New York Times Best wholesaler Seller list for advice books for one of the longest periods in history. “ To date, more than 30 million copies of the book has been sold. In a nutshell, the Purpose Driven Life takes readers to a 40-day personal spiritual journey. The general outline of the book is that it presents God's five purposes for man here on earth. I used to have a copy of the book and I have read it from cover to cover. I forgot where I placed it. Recently a friend mentioned that she wanted to give me a copy of the book, she said that they are coming out with a new edition. Later on she discovered … [Read more...]
God’s response to atheist bus advertising
Atheist in London has raised £135,000+ (Close to $200,000.00 U.S) to engage in an active bus advertising campaign. About 800 buses all over England were tapped for the bus advertising campaign. Atheist says they not only plan to do it in the United Kingdom but that they will probably continue to spread it around the world. I can’t believe these people, spending so much money on bus advertising discrediting God. What on earth are they trying to achieve? They could have spent the money for other useful purposes to solve other world problems instead. (The only bright side of this is that they let the printers and the bus companies make some money) I heard recently that God decided to give them a taste of their own medicine, so He engaged in His own bus bus advertising campaign. Here it is: Thanks to Marhgil Macuha for giving the url for this “Atheist bus slogan generator.” Want to make your own bus advertising? Click here. Here’s my own bus advertising. Enjoy !!! … [Read more...]
What the Gospel is truly about
Years ago while attending a Baptist Youth Congress, I heard that during the conference, a young man was taught what the gospel is all about by a Bible student. After saying the “sinner's Prayer” the young man was asked by his friends if he was already “saved.” With a look of surprise the young man replied “Saved ?” “Is that what being saved is” To my mind this young man doesn’t have the faintest idea on what the Gospel is truly all about. Unfortunately this scenario is repeated thousands of times every day even in the most orthodox of evangelical circles. The real message of what the Gospel is truly all about has been watered down to a gospel of “easy-believism.” Today most people when presented with this watered down gospel do not understand the commitment involved when one is explained what the Gospel is all about. Nevertheless, God has continued to raise men throughout the centuries to stand firm, steadfast and committed to communicating the truth about what the Gospel is as … [Read more...]
