Last August 4, 2008 I wrote the post entitled “Beijing Olympics 2008 standing.” I figured out that a lot of people will be searching for the keyword “Olympics 2008 standing” since the keyword “Olympics 2004 standing” received several hits for a short period of time. In short I optimized this blog for that keyword, knowing full well that I will receive a lot of visitors for this keyword.
Within 24 hours, my post got indexed by google. Since only a few bloggers were writing for that keyword, I immediately made it to the top 5 in the SERP.
After 2 days, my position improved to number 2 and then yesterday I made it to the number 1 spot for the keyword “Olympics 2008 standing.”
I was excited of the possible deluge of visitors that would make it in my site. However when I checked last night, I was surprised that I am no longer in the number 1 spot in google for the keyword “Olympics 2008 standing.” What’s worst about this is that I am not even in the top 10 nor in the top 500! My blog post optimizing for the keyword “Olympics 2008 standing” was totally gone from the SERP.
This is definitely nightmare for SEO optimizers!
I tried checking my page rank if I got a downgrade, but I didn’t. I am still at page rank 3.
What could have happened? Have other bloggers or website master optimized their web pages or blog to overtake me for the keyword ”Olympics 2008 standing” ? I don’t think so. If that is the case, I should have been downgraded to at least within the top 10 or top 20 just like in other keywords that I have optimized.
Could Google be the culprit? Could it be that they want the top post to be occupied directly by the official Beijing Olympics 2008 site? If they are then what could I do, after all it is their search engine. I am just a lowly newbie blogger who is only trying to work hard to make a living.
Could it be that Google got mad because I wrote a post about “How to make cash online by just surfing” and asked people to shift to SCOUR.COM instead of using other search engines? This blog is still so small compared to well known blogs out there, so I don’t think this could be the reason. But who knows what goes on Google’s mind?
Surprisingly the top 2 sites that occupies the number spot for the keyword “Olympics standing 2008” does not even contain the keyword. The top two positions are occupied by the Official Beijing Olympics website but it does not even point to the Olympics 2008 standing.
I can accept this, but why totally downgrade my post to a position where it cannot be totally seen in the SERP? Why not downgrade it just within the top ten? After all I deserve something for all the hard work that I did. Besides, the post still has something to do with the keyword. I will be posting the Olympics 2008 standing as soon as I get hold of the information. The post is not irrelevant to the keyword.
Does anybody out there have an idea on what happened to my post “Olympics 2008 standing” ? Drop me a comment.
Update: I am delighted that I am back at the number 2 spot in google for the keyword. Just in time for the Beijing Olympics.
